Zwillich, Ellen Taaffe: Zwilich was born in 1939 in Miami - Florida. She attended Florida State University and Juilliard - studying composition with Roger Sessions and Elliott Carter. She was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize in music which she did in 1983 for Three Movements for Orchestra ( Symphony no. 1 ).
